Ahead of the upcoming special election, each sheriff released a statement on why they chose to back Shoaf for District 7.
"Jason Shoaf was born and raised in the Big Bend Area and understands the needs of those who call it home. Living in an area that is still feeling the effects of Hurricane Michael, Jason has demonstrated his dedication to helping the citizens recover and the community rebuild," said Jefferson County Sheriff Mac McNeill. "Jason supports President Trump, protects our rights to keep and bear arms, supports law enforcement, and will always stand up for our conservative values. I am proud to endorse Jason Shoaf, Republican, for District 7, Florida House of Representatives."
"I'm happy to support Jason Shoaf. We need to all come together to get someone in there to help North Florida," said Wakulla County Sheriff Jared Miller.
"Jason Shoaf understands the importance of our jobs as law enforcement officers here in North Florida. From keeping people safe to responding in emergencies, our jobs help protect our hometowns and our North Florida lifestyle," said Franklin County Sheriff AJ Smith. Jason will fight to defend our values and restore our area in the Florida House. I am proud to support Jason Shoaf for House District 7,."
"As the Sheriff of a Hurricane Michael impacted county, I can attest that we need strong leadership in the Florida House of Representatives as we are recovering from this storm," said Liberty County Sheriff Eddie Joe White. Jason Shoaf has prioritized economic stimulus, job growth and education in our area. We need Jason Shoaf as our next representative."
A conservative from Port St. Joe, Shoaf is a staunch advocate for the law enforcement community, and has expressed his desire to take care of those who protect and serve.
"Florida's law enforcement officers are on the front lines of nearly every challenge we face," Shoaf said. "Whether it's mass violence, the opioid epidemic or illegal immigration, our men and women in blue put their lives on the line every single day to thwart these threats and keep us safe. When I'm in the Florida House, I'll do everything I can to honor them, support them and ensure they have the resources they need to do their job and return home safely to their families."
A small business owner, this is the first time Shoaf has ever ran for office. He's a constitutional conservative who vocally supports President Donald Trump's efforts to secure the borders. Shoaf considers himself a champion of the Second Amendment and a defender of life. If elected, Shoaf has promised to provide immediate relief to Northwest Florida families impacted by Hurricane Michael. He also said that he will make bringing jobs to the district a top priority by emphasizing technical training and career education.
Shoaf captured the Republican nomination on April 9, defeating his opponents in a monumental landslide -- taking almost 50 percent of the total vote.
He will now take on Democrat Ryan Terrell in the June 18 general election.
